Consumer Offering
A consumer offering refers to an offering, including a registered offering, which is targeted at retail investors. Often, in the case of a registered public offering, the issuer may appoint a particular underwriter to lead the consumer offering and market the transaction, whether through internet-based means, or otherwise, to retail accounts. Sometimes, a consumer offering may be targeted to the issuer’s customers. For example, in the case of an initial public offering undertaken by a popular restaurant chain, the issuer insisted on having a portion of the shares in the offering made available to customers.
